Susan Overmiller (AKA Suzy Q., Boss Lady, and Coffee Queen), is the owner of Barista's. She has lived in Hastings for over 21 years and opened Barista's 13 years ago. Her husband is a veterinarian at the Animal Clinic and they are the parents of four wonderful young men (and an awesome daughter-in-law). She and her husband are Kansas State University graduates, and grew up in Kansas. They have embraced Nebraska as home and love raising their family in Hastings. Susan says, "I feel truly blessed with wonderful employees and customers. Owning a coffee shop has given me the opportunity to meet many interesting people and establish relationships that otherwise would not exist. I thank the Hastings community for embracing and supporting Barista's!"
Jill has been with Baristas since opening day 14 years ago, and has helped create a community with her love for coffee. She has three wonderful children and two beautiful grandchildren, and she loves spending time with her family whenever she gets the chance. Her favorite Barista’s specialty is any smoothie, but she also loves their traditional black coffee.
Meet Sally Hatcher, the "grounds keeper” at Barista’s. She’s the one behind the beautiful landscape around the shop. Sally enjoys gardening, reading, yoga, genealogy, restoration and helping out her daughter, Susan. At 80 years old she is an inspiration to us all!
Trevor is a Hastings native, and Hastings High School alum. He has been with Barista’s for 12 years, when he’s not serving customers carefully crafted coffee, he’s serving part-time on the Hastings Fire Department. In his free time, Trevor enjoys spending his time with his five children and watching (playing) sports. His favorite Barista’s specialty is a white mocha with almond milk.
Katie is studying Advertising and Public Relations at Hastings College. She has many passions, including good music, traveling, discovering new coffee shops, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite Barista’s specialty is the iced dirty spice chai.
Autumn is in her second year at Central Community College, and is planning on transferring to Hastings College to study Marketing. She has been part of the Barista's family since she was a junior in high school. She loves travel, Crossfit, photography, dogs, and, of course, coffee. Her favorite Barista’s specialty is an ice almond white mocha breve!
Matti was born and raised in Hastings and graduated from Adams Central. She is currently studying to become a nurse. She is a lover of coffee, Jesus Christ, and spending precious time with friends and family. When she’s not being a barista, she enjoys searching Pinterest for fun crafts. Her favorite Barista’s specialty is the Matti Mocha - a mocha with caramel and praline. Try her signature drink next time you come in!
Teresa is currently studying at Central Community College, and is planning on transferring to the University of Nebraska at Kearney to study Speech/Language Pathology. Her favorite Barista’s specialty is the dirty harvest moon chai.
Khyla moved from McCook to Hastings to attend Hastings College, and has been a part of the Barista’s family for four years. She graduated in December with a degree in psychology and a minor in art. She is currently working on her masters in clinical mental health counseling in Kearney. Her favorite Barista’s specialty is the vanilla honey breve, and she enjoys a bagel almost every morning she works.
Chandler is in her second year at Central Community College and is actively pursuing a career in nursing. He is a lover of family, friends, and Jesus Christ. She says that all of Barista’s drinks are delicious, but her two favorites are the salted caramel iced breve and the almond green tea chai.
Anya is a freshman at Hastings College, where she studying marketing and small business development. She enjoys playing basketball and being involved with the theatre department. Her favorite Barista's drink is the vanilla chai tea.
